Animation Requirements
Video introduction: Tell us about who you are as an artist. Record a short (2-5 minutes) video introduction, including information about your artistic journey, such as the kinds of classes or lessons you have taken, your artistic accomplishments, any awards you have won, groups you have participated in, artistic experiences that have been particularly meaningful, and anything else you would like for us to know about you as an artist.
Portfolio: 5-10 recent pieces of artwork that represent your artistic interests and demonstrate your technical skills and abilities. Your portfolio should include:
- Observational drawings: 1-3 drawings from observation. These drawings can be of figures drawn from live models, still lifes, or perspective drawings of space. They should not be work drawn from imagination or copied from photographs. They should not be digital drawings.
- Writing sample: 1-2 pieces of short fiction, critical/expository writing, or nonfiction narrative up to 10 pages.
- Other media: 1-5 pieces of your choice: animation, photography, short video, sculpture, or digital art.
- Personal statement: Please choose and respond to one of the prompts below. You can do this through a written essay (1-2 pages) or video submission (maximum 5 minutes).
- Describe a current piece: Choose a piece from your submitted portfolio. Share where the idea came from, why you chose the specific medium used, what you are saying or addressing through your piece, and why you ultimately wanted to create it.
- Idea: Propose a detailed description of a story that you would like to tell through an animated project.
Portfolio Guidance
Your portfolio should reflect your interest and ability. Include examples of your best work. If you’re unable to present all of the suggested materials, please submit materials that best showcase your skill level and potential, including work that is still in progress.
