How far would you go to boost your television ratings? That’s the question faced by longtime UBS anchor Howard Beale and his colleagues in Lee Hall’s satirical play, Network. After learning that he is about to be fired for low ratings, Beale launches into an irate on-air rant. Beale’s tirade earns him a wildly successful new career as the “angry prophet of the airwaves,” inspiring network administrators to exploit his accelerating instability and develop even more extreme program ideas. Based on the 1976 Academy Award-winning film of the same name, Network offers an outlandish yet relevant reflection on our outrage-fueled media landscape.
