Acting Techniques: Monologues

Understanding your character is the key to great acting. In order to realistically "inhabit" another person, you must discover their motivations and learn what they think, what they feel, what they wear, how they talk, and how they move. In this online acting course, you will explore the techniques that professional actors use to deeply understand and then portray believable characters.

This course will help you develop a solid understanding of acting and use that understanding to analyze scripts and build convincing characters for both the stage and screen. You will learn about the history of acting and acting methods in order to see how people all over the world have used acting to tell stories effectively.

Our online acting classes teach you how to look for clues in a script and perform several exercises that will help you portray your character. You will then learn how to choose, develop, and perform a monologue that showcases your acting skills.

What you will learn:

✔ Explore important acting methods, including the Stanislavski method and the Meisner technique
✔ Analyze scripts in order to understand the characters you are going to play and their place in the story
✔ Explore the history of acting, with a focus on non-Western styles, to expand your toolkit as an actor
✔ Find, study, and perform at least one fully realized monologue that you can use for future auditions
✔ Talk about the craft of acting with others who love it just as much as you do
