Why Take Bassoon Intensive

This one-week bassoon camp is your chance to explore your craft alongside other talented musicians. While at Interlochen, you'll spend your time in workshops, master classes, and performing chamber music designed to help you flourish as a bassoonist.

What You'll Learn

During this intensive, you will develop new skills, technique, and confidence. Our program will prepare you for further advanced study as a bassoonist and explore your potential as a musician and performer.

Our curriculum includes:

  • Daily reed-making classes
  • Daily bassoon ensemble rehearsals
  • Individual practice time
  • Large bassoon ensemble

You will also learn:

  • Efficient practice technique
  • The art of tone production
  • The science of reeds
  • Performance anxiety coping methods
  • The college audition process
  • Contrabassoon

Program Highlights

Distinguished Faculty

Our bassoon faculty are professional musicians and instructors who teach at Interlochen and other sought-after institutions around the globe. They are professional artists who are active participants in the music world. They are thoughtful, supportive, and eager to help you as you develop your career.

The Music Center

Our state-of-the-art music facility has two 3,500 square-foot rehearsal halls, two recording studios which allow for rehearsal and performance recordings in multiple venues on campus, multiple ensemble and practice rooms, and individual faculty teaching studios. Learn more about The Music Center.

You are also welcome to apply to the Orchestra & Wind program, which starts immediately following this one-week intensive.

Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers six music programs for students in grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
