Why Take Clarinet Intensive

During this one-week program, you'll have the opportunity to practice with purpose and focus on your craft. Our world-renowned faculty is here to develop your technique and confidence. The program will prepare you for college and conservatory auditions—or wherever your clarinet path may lead.

What You'll Learn

This program offers courses, workshops, and master classes that will develop your musicianship and performance skills.

Our curriculum includes:

  • Fundamentals workshops
  • College audition prep
  • Practice technique
  • Historical clarinets
  • Alexander technique
  • Master classes (including one solo performance and observation of advanced clarinet intensive classes)
  • Clarinet chamber ensemble rehearsals and coaching
  • Clarinet chamber ensemble final performance

Program Specialities: 

  • Mock orchestral audition facilitated exactly like a professional audition (advanced students play while others watch and listen)
  • "How to practice" classes
  • Historical clarinets demonstration (students watch and listen as professionals play)

Program Highlights

Distinguished Faculty

Our faculty of professional musicians and educators teach at Interlochen, conservatories, and beyond. They are professional artists who are active participants in the music world. Our faculty are thoughtful, supportive, and eager to help you on your music journey.

The Music Center

Our state-of-the-art music facility has two 3,500 square-foot rehearsal halls, two recording studios which allow for rehearsal and performance recordings in multiple venues on campus, multiple ensemble and practice rooms, and individual faculty teaching studios. Learn more about The Music Center.

Additional Opportunities

You are welcome to apply for our multi-week, ensemble-based Orchestra & Wind Ensemble program, which takes place immediately following the one-week clarinet intensive.

Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers six music programs for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
