Interlochen alumni selected as 2024 Emmy Award nominees

Actors Maya Erskine and Da’Vine Joy Randolph and composers Laura Karpman and Jeff Toyne are among the eleven alumni honored in one of television’s most prestigious award programs.

Eleven Interlochen Arts Camp and Arts Academy alumni are among the nominees for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious small-screen awards, the Emmy Awards honor artistic and technical excellence in the international television industry. Nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday, July 17 during a live event at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Winners will be announced during “television’s biggest night,” a live ceremony that will take place at the Peacock Theater on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.

Maya Erskine (IAC 98, 02) was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her starring role in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The Amazon Prime series earned 16 total nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Erskine also voiced the character Mizu in the Outstanding Animated Program-nominated series Blue Eye Samurai.

Composer Jeff Toyne (IAC 92) received two nominations—Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Main Title Theme Music—for his work on Palm Royale. The Apple TV series, which stars Kristin Wiig and Ricky Martin, was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.

  • Myron Nettinga (IAA 84-85, IAC St 85) - Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half Hour) and Animation, Blue Eye Samurai

First awarded in 1949, the Emmy Awards recognize excellence within various areas of television and emerging media. The awards are administered by three sister organizations: The Television Academy, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Nominees and winners are selected by nearly 22,000 voting members of the Television Academy, each of whom cast ballots for the categories in their field of expertise. This year, the Television Academy received more than 7,400 entries in 124 award categories.
