Classical music power couple cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han to bring passionate chamber music to Interlochen
The renowned husband-wife duo will perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Mendelsohn, Albeniz, and Chopin.
Hailed by the New York Times as “eloquent and deeply committed,” cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han will perform at Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall at Interlochen Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

The power couple will perform Bach’s Sonata in G Major for Viola da Gamba and Keyboard, BWV 1027; Beethoven’s Sonata in C Major for Cello and Piano, Op. 102, No. 1; Mendelssohn’s Sonata No. 2 in D Major for Cello and Piano, Op. 58; Albeniez’s selections from “Suite Espagnole” (solo piano); and Chopin’s Sonata in G Minor for Cello and Piano, Op. 65.
Finckel and Han are among the world’s most esteemed and influential classical musicians. In high demand as chamber performers, the duo also serve as artistic directors of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS). They are recipients of Musical America’s Musicians of the Year award, one of the highest honors granted by the music industry. In high demand among chamber music audiences worldwide, the duo has appeared at the most prestigious venues and concert series across the United States, Mexico, Canada, the Far East, and Europe to unanimous critical acclaim.
The artists’ wide-ranging musical activities also include the launch of ArtistLed, classical music’s first musician-directed and Internet-based recording company, whose 19-album catalogue has won widespread praise. The duo has also overseen the establishment and design of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s acclaimed CMS Studio and CMS Live labels, as well as the Society’s recording partnership with Deutsche Grammophon, and the much lauded Music@Menlo LIVE label.
Now in their third term as artistic directors of CMS, Finckel and Han are also the founding artistic directors of Music@Menlo, a chamber music festival and institute in Silicon Valley. In 2011, David Finckel and Wu Han were named artistic directors of Chamber Music Today, an annual festival held in Korea. Under the auspices of CMS, they also lead the LG Chamber Music School, which serves dozens of young musicians in Korea annually. In these capacities, as well as through a multitude of other education initiatives, including their chamber music studio at the Aspen Music Festival and School, they have achieved universal renown for their passionate commitment to nurturing the careers of countless young artists. David Finckel serves as professor of Cello at The Juilliard School, as well as artist-in-residence at Stony Brook University.
