Animator, director, and storyboard artist Troy Quane to headline 2024 Future of Cinema Film Festival

The two-day festival, which runs Nov. 1-2, will also feature fine arts photographer and Arts Academy alumna Alina Bobrova.

Animator, storyboard artist, and director Troy Quane and fine arts photographer and Interlochen Arts Academy alumna Alina Bobrova (IAA 14-17) will appear as special guests at the 2024 Future of Cinema Film Festival.

Hosted annually by Interlochen Arts Academy’s Film & New Media Division, the Future of Cinema Film Festival offers opportunities for high school filmmakers to meet professionals in visual storytelling through master classes, screenings, and Q&A sessions. This year’s festival will run Friday, Nov. 1 through Saturday, Nov. 2. Each day of the festival will culminate with a free, public screening of works by the guest artists at 7:30 p.m. in the DeRoy Center for Film Studies. Tickets are not required.

Troy Quane is a Canadian-American veteran of the Hollywood animation industry, known for directing major studio pictures including Spies in Disguise, starring Will Smith and Tom Holland, and most recently the Academy Award-nominated film Nimona. In 1995, having studied Classical Animation at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, he began his career as a traditional animator for Walt Disney Animation Canada. Quane continued as a Senior Animator on various top end commercials and feature films until 2005, when he accepted the opportunity to work as Storyboard Supervisor on the critically acclaimed live-action Disney film Enchanted. Quane continued working in the story department for various studios which ultimately led him to direct the 22-minute short film The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol (2011) for SONY Pictures. Additional film credits include Fox Feature Animation’s Titan A.E. (2000), Warner Bros. Feature Animation’s Osmosis Jones (2001), Universal’s Curious George (2006), 9 (2009) for Focus Features, Aardman Animation’s Arthur Christmas (2011), SONY Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania (2012), and Blue Sky Studios feature films The Peanuts Movie (2015), Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) and the Academy Award®-nominated film Ferdinand (2017).

Alina Bobrova, born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, is a fine art photographer and a multidisciplinary artist. She lives and works in New York. Bobrova graduated from International Center of Photography in New York and received her BFA from Parsons School of Design. Bobrova's artistic practice spans a wide range of media including photography, sculpture, poetry, and printmaking. Her work alternates between long-term fine-art and documentary projects. She produced work for and was interviewed by a variety of international magazines, and took part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad.
