Interlochen Arts Academy senior George Loheac wins first place in the 2022 Youth America Grand Prix Semifinals
The fourth-year Arts Academy dance student competed in Indianapolis in March in the classical dance category.
Interlochen Arts Academy dance student George Loheac won first place in the classical dance category in the Indianapolis semifinals of the 2022 Youth American Grand Prix for his performance of a variation from “Satanella.” The competition took place March 10-13, 2022.
A 17-year-old senior in his fourth year at Interlochen, Loheac recently performed the role of “Romeo” in the Academy’s ballet adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, a role in which he’ll be featured in a broadcast on Detroit Public TV on April 24.
“My win at YAGP Indianapolis is really just a testament to the excellent ballet training I have received over these years at Interlochen,” Loheac said. “When I was 14, my family searched far and wide for a program that would offer strong academics combined with conservatory-level dance training. My time here has been amazing and I have been accepted to every single University dance program to which I applied thanks to the professional-level training I've received these four years at Interlochen.”
“As a four-year Interlochen Arts Academy student, George sets a fine example of what one can do with hard work, determination, and positivity with everything he does in the studio and on stage,” said Interlochen Director of Dance Joseph Morrissey. “It is rewarding for me as an instructor to be part of George’s continued artistic successes. He takes every ounce of coaching with seriousness and appreciation, and the results are clearly reflected in his ongoing commendable performances.”
The world’s largest global network of dance, YAGP supports and develops world-class dancers, ages 9-19, and fulfills its mission of dance education through scholarship auditions, master classes, alumni services, educational and outreach activities, performances, and films.
The 2022 Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition finals will take place on April, 13 in Tampa Florida.
