Interlochen Arts Academy’ singer-songwriter students will present their first public performance since March 2020 on Friday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit tickets.interlochen.org.
Held in picturesque Kresge Auditorium, the concert will feature more than 15 original songs in a variety of genres and styles written and performed by students in the Academy’s singer-songwriter program. The Academy’s Popular Music Ensemble will support the performers.
“We are thrilled to perform in Kresge for our first concert of the year,” said Director of Contemporary Music Courtney Kaiser-Sandler. “The venue has a magical history of artists who have graced that stage, and we’re beyond grateful to the Interlochen Presents team for making it possible for our students to perform there. This performance will be especially amazing because we can have family, friends, and members of our local community in the audience—we value their support so very much. I hope to see as many seats filled as possible!”
Founded in 2012, Interlochen Arts Academy’s singer-songwriter program attracts emerging artists in a wide variety of styles and genres. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, students hone their skills as songwriters and musicians through a cutting-edge curriculum that incorporates vocal and instrumental lessons, poetry classes, private and group workshops, and music business studies.
Graduates of the program have been selected as Presidential Scholars in the Arts, John Lennon Songwriting Contest winners, and National Endowment for the Arts Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge winners, among many other accolades. Notable alumni of the program include pop artist Claud, Panamanian singer-songwriter Sofía Valdés, and folk-pop singer Breezy Love.
