Interlochen Presents Sir James Galway
The “living legend of the flute” will premiere a piece composed by Arts Academy faculty Thomas Childs, collaborate with the Arts Academy Orchestra, and more.
Internationally acclaimed Irish flutist Sir James Galway will join Interlochen Arts Academy for two unforgettable nights.
“The Galways will be in residence working with our students in master classes, workshops, and rehearsals, culminating in two performances that we are eager to share with our community,” said Rory Baker, Executive Director of Interlochen Presents. “Interlochen faculty composer Thomas Childs has written a piece of music to celebrate Sir James Galway’s 80th birthday which includes Interlochen flute instructor Nancy Stagnitta and our student flute choir. Sir Galway will also perform with our orchestra for two evenings of music not to be missed.”
On Oct. 9, 2019, Sir James and his wife, fellow flutist Lady Jeanne Galway, will perform a duo recital in Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall. The Galway duo will also be joined on stage by Arts Academy flute faculty Nancy Stagnitta and the Arts Academy Flute Choir. Tickets to the Oct. 9 concert are $44.
On Oct. 10, 2019, Sir James will join the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra for a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration, performing Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major. Tickets to the Oct. 10 concert, which will be held in Corson Auditorium, are $34 for adults and $14 for students.
