Abigail Hoiles, M.Ed.
About Abigail
Abbi Hoiles holds a B.A. in English Language & Literature and a M.A. in Educational Studies, with a focus in English and Sociology, both from the University of Michigan. Hoiles has taught a wide range of populations, always with a focus on discussion-based, constructivist learning modalities that contribute to deep student engagement and provide rich possibilities for inquiry. She has a particular interest in writing instruction and the impact background and place have on education.
It is important to me to create a safe, structured, and community-oriented learning environment in which my students feel comfortable constructing knowledge and developing intellectual character. In such an environment, we can read, write, inquire, and speak alongside each other as students confront real problems, ask questions, exchange ideas, and find solutions. Because I believe in the power of young people and their right to be successful both in my classroom and beyond, it is also my responsibility to teach personal management skills such as accountability, organization, and teamwork. What a gift it is to be working and collaborating alongside these passionate young people every day!
