Adam Pelty is Associate Professor Musical Theatre and Dance at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. Before joining CCU’s faculty, he created the original choreography for The Scarlet Pimpernel on Broadway and served as Resident Choreographer for the Broadway National Tour of Billy Elliot-The Musical. He has since helmed several regional productions of Billy Elliot, including for the historic Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine (IRNE award for choreography) and the Fulton Theatre in Pennsylvania. Credits for CCU include Cabaret, Merrily We Roll Along, Urinetown-The Musical, Crazy For You, Steel Pier, Bullet Over Broadway, A Chorus Line, Little Women, 1940s Radio Hour, The World Goes Round, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and A Little Night Music. Recently, he collaborated with Tony Award winners Mark Hollmann and Rupert Holmes on their new musical My Man Godfrey, part of CCU’s new work development program.
As an actor, Pelty’s career has spanned four decades. He has been seen on Broadway in Cyrano - The Musical, Steel Pier, A Christmas Carol, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Titanic. Pelty has been nominated for two Joseph Jefferson awards in Chicago for acting - for The Drowsy Chaperone (Marriott, 2010) and Putting It Together (Porchlight, 2012). He was also featured as Santa in the pre-Broadway national tour of A Christmas Story (2012).
