About Blake

Blake Whyte has had the pleasure of working with and for with some of the great songwriters and storytellers of our time, including Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael R. Jackson, Celisse, Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, Rona Siddiqui, Liz Suggs, Julianne Wick Davis, and Rachel Peters. As an actor and singer, he has played principal roles in the Broadway productions of such hit shows as Wicked and Mamma Mia!

He is a songwriter, composer, arranger, orchestrator, producer, and instrumentalist who has worked in many and diverse areas and genres of music. As an artist, Blake has toured all over the United States and he is a busy film, TV, and media composer. He co-produced his debut album, More Like Myself, with Jeffrey Lee Campbell (Sting’s guitarist). The LP included "Summer Love Soul," a duet with Celisse (who is currently touring with Brandi Carlile). His single release, "Let Me Fly," sparked a collaboration with prolific mixer Adam Hawkins. He is an avid conservationist, and is currently writing a musical about the founding of Acadia National Park. He frequently collaborates on new projects with artist Monica Kapoor.

A true lover of songwriting communities, Blake was selected to participate in the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project, the Banff Centre’s Music Residency, and a unique NYU lyric intensive with Rosanne Cash. He is the recipient of the ASCAP Plus Award, the NYU Diversity and Inclusion Award, and its Distinguished Service Award, presented by Dave Schroeder, director of the university’s Jazz Studies program. His solo show at New York’s legendary Joe’s Pub was NY-1’s pick of the week.

Blake has been a guest teaching artist at Michigan State University, Interlochen Arts Academy, Denison University, and Kalamazoo College. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Syracuse University and a Masters of Songwriting from NYU. His voice teaching mentors are Marlena Malas and Monte Long. His songwriting mentors include Barry Eastmond, Kevin Killen, and Phil Galdston.

He resides in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his wife and their finest co-creations to-date, daughter Kya and son Haven. He was recently named Program Assistant at NYU Steinhardt’s Songwriting Program, where he will work closely with both students and faculty.
