About Carin
Carin Nuernberg joined Interlochen in August 2022 as Executive Director of Interlochen Online. In her role, Carin is working to bring the world-class curricula of Interlochen's seven arts disciplines to young audiences around the world. She is passionate about arts education and creating engaging learning experiences online that connect teachers and students regardless of geographical boundaries. Prior to Interlochen, she spent 20 years at Berklee College of Music, culminating with her role as Vice President of Academic Strategy, in which she oversaw the creation and growth of academic programs for Berklee Online, Summer Programs, and Berklee Press.
Carin was heavily involved with the founding and growth of Berklee Online, including designing and building its very first online courses and certificate programs, and leading the successful launch and growth of online undergraduate and graduate degree programs. She oversaw partnerships that resulted in massive open online courses that reached millions of learners through Coursera and edX and a co-branded MBA with Southern New Hampshire University.
Carin's work resulted in multiple awards, including the top online college award from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) for an unprecedented eight years in a row and awards for strategic innovation in online education and international programs of excellence for Portuguese- and Spanish-language programming. She has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Billboard.
Carin began her professional career as an instructional designer at the University of Washington and went on to design and manage curriculum for the online education startup SmartPlanet. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and French from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, which included studies at the Sorbonne and Université de Paris.
