About Courtney

Courtney Nottingham is a music educator in northeast Kansas. She currently serves as the Director of Orchestras at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas, where her Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at the 2024 Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) In-Service Workshop. Prior to this position, Nottingham worked in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools District as an elementary orchestra teacher and string collaborator for middle and high school programs in the district.

Nottingham holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Kansas (KU) and a master’s degree in music education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Her master's degree work included compiling and transcribing Spanish-language folk songs into a resource made to be suitable for beginning strings students. This resource has since been utilized by music educators across Kansas and has been influential in providing culturally relevant music in diverse classrooms. Nottingham has presented this resource in clinics at the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention and the 2023 Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) In-Service Workshop.

In addition to her experience in string education, Nottingham is also well-versed in band instrumental education. As a clarinetist, Nottingham participated in wind band education in grade school and college. Her performance experiences include being a member of the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, University of Kansas Marching Band, and performing with the Crossroads Wind Symphony.

For four summers, Nottingham served as Ensemble Manager for the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen Arts Camp. In this position, she served as the liaison between students, faculty, and guest conductors and was responsible for executing all logistical tasks for the high-caliber ensemble.

Nottingham is thrilled to return to the Interlochen Arts Camp faculty this summer as the instructor of Instrument Exploration and Junior Band.
