About Daniel P.
Dan Ryan is an accomplished conductor, music director, composer, and educator known for his innovative and interdisciplinary approach to music and theatre. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of VOICES Boston Children’s Choir and the Conductor of the Colleges of the Fenway Chorus and Orchestra. A frequent collaborator with organizations such as Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, White Snake Opera, and professional musical theater companies.
As a composer, Dan recently wrote the music for the acclaimed Off-Broadway play Breaking the Story at Second Stage. His compositions and arrangements, situated at the crossroads of classical music, rock, and Golden Age musical theatre, have garnered acclaim for their emotional depth and innovative craftsmanship. Current projects in development include the new musical Found at Brimfield and original choral music for Christina, a new play by Alexis Scheer. Known for blending theatricality with musicianship, Dan brings vibrant storytelling to both the stage and the podium.
Dan is a dynamic creator and collaborator. He co-founded Cosmic D+A, a theatrical production company with a mission to push artistic boundaries and tell compelling stories across various media. His work ranges from concert programming to educational initiatives and reflects his dual passions for artistry and mentorship. He is also co-founder and deeply involved with The Gena Branscombe Project, a scholarship organization honoring one of America’s pioneering women composers.
Dan is driven by his belief in the transformative power of the arts, not only for audiences but also for the performers themselves. Whether leading a choir, directing a musical, or composing new works, Dan continually inspires a spirit of discovery and joy. He resides in Boston with his wife, Alexis Scheer, an accomplished playwright and artist, and their beloved dog, Sagan.

I emphasize collaboration, curiosity, and the pursuit of excellence, encouraging students to take risks and connect deeply with their craft. Through music and performance, I aim to foster creativity, empathy, and lifelong learning.
