About Ethan

Currently pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Michigan State University as a graduate assistant, Ethan Strickland is a percussionist, performer, and educator who performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. He is passionate about community outreach and collaborating with emerging composers on new works.

He has participated in festivals such as the Bang on a Can Summer Festival, the Cortona Sessions for New Music, and the Sandbox Percussion Seminar, allowing him to immerse himself in further learning opportunities. Strickland has performed with artists such as the Arx Duo, the Bang on a Can All- Stars, and Jason Treuting of Sō Percussion.

Serving as a graduate teaching assistant, Strickland earned his Masters in Music Performance at the University of Kansas in 2022. Receiving his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance at Reinhardt University, he was the 2019 Reinhardt University Concerto Competition winner as well as the recipient of the Sal Gentile Jazz Scholarship.

Strickland’s previous teachers include Dr. Olivia Kieffer, Dr. Nathaniel Lee, and Dr. Sam Um. He is currently studying with Professor Gwendolyn Dease, Dr. Jon Weber, and Professor Kevin Jones.
