About Jim

Jim Van Slyke is a nationally recognized vocal coach and performing artist with studios in the Washington, D.C. area and New York City. He’s in high demand as a teacher, clinician, and guest speaker and has been endorsed by the Johns Hopkins University Department of Otolaryngology.

Before coming to Interlochen, Van Slyke was the Visiting Professor of Commercial Voice and Musical Theatre at Ball State University. He has served on the voice faculty at Ithaca College, Catholic University, Shenandoah University, and George Mason University.

When not serving as an educator, Van Slyke is an active concert and recording artist, having played concert stages across the United States and Europe. He is an award-winning singer/songwriter receiving Grammy Award attention for his debut album, Open Road, and was awarded the prestigious ASCAP Song of the year award for the self-penned title track. His most recent album, The Sedaka Sessions, is a critically acclaimed tribute to pop music icon Neil Sedaka, on which the pop legend himself recorded two duets with Van Slyke.
