About John

John Aley performs extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally. He is Principal trumpet with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. Recognized as an outstanding teacher and performer, he is an Interlochen Valade Fellow. He is on faculty for the Interlochen Trumpet Intensive and the Interlochen Arts Camp.

Aley has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Wichita, Stamford, and Greenwich Symphonies and numerous New York ensembles such as the American Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, American Composers' Orchestra, Orfeus Chamber Ensemble, and Musica Sacra. He has worked with a wide range of conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Anu Talin, JoAnn Falletta, Edo de Waart, John Demain, Catherine Comet, and Carl St. Clair. Aley is a former member of the American Brass Quintet and Wisconsin Brass Quintet, and has been a soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra and Vienna Chamber Orchestra.

Aley has recorded with American Brass Quintet, PDQ Bach, Wisconsin Brass Quintet, and additional ensembles, and has released a solo CD, Autumn. Internationally, he has performed in Cuba for the 500th Anniversary of Santiago, Cuba, as well as in Mexico City and Toluca. He has served as an artist/faculty member with the Aspen Music Festival and Yale Summer Music, and as a performer, clinician, and adjudicator for the International Trumpet Guild and National Trumpet Competition.

Aley serves as Professor Emeritus at the Mead Witter School of Music University Wisconsin-Madison, Brooklyn College, Wichita State University, and Western Connecticut State College.

This knowledge is then utilized to support and encourage growth and comprehension of the many other required pedagogical and musical parameters of trumpet performance. This approach paves the way for the student to develop into a positive person and expressive musician.
