About Karen
Karen Leland Libby is currently Instructor of Shakespeare, Middle Eastern Literature, Articulating an Argument, British Literature, Indiana University's Advanced College Project courses Literary Interpretation and Reading, Writing, & Inquiry, and Director of the IAA Writing Center.
An International Baccalaureate Educator, Libby has been the summer instructor of Academic Writing at TASIS, an American International School in Switzerland since 2003, and she recently joined the Global Certificate Program at Northwestern Michigan College as an instructor of Middle Eastern Literature. She was a 2020-2021 Fellow of the University of Michigan's MENA-SEA Teacher Program. During a 2017 IAA sabbatical she journeyed to the Middle East to study art history and learn firsthand about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, before returning home to earn a Certificate in Middle East Studies at the University of Michigan.
Libby came to Interlochen in 2006 from TASIS England, an American International School near London. She has completed professional development with The Folger Shakespeare Library and Shakespeare's Globe in London. She minored in music at the University of Illinois.
English class offers students the opportunity to form a community of inquiry, conversation, and intentional practice as they become stronger readers, master a discipline’s content, and acquire its relevant skills. Our work always guides us toward better understanding of our turbulent world and how to live fully within it.
