About Lauren

Dr. Lauren Hunt is the Linda VanSickle Smith French Horn Chair and Director of Brass Studies at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Her professional career was kick-started by winning first prize in the International Horn Competition of America in 2013. More recently, Hunt was selected as a fellow by the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. She performs regularly in the horn section of ensembles including Ballet West, Utah Symphony, Utah Festival Opera, and Artosphere Festival Orchestra.

A passionate chamber musician, Hunt can be heard on an album of Beethoven’s chamber works for winds released by Naxos in 2019. Hunt has performed at the International Women’s Brass Conference, ClarinetFest, and the International Horn Symposium. Other recent chamber music appearances include Marlboro Music Festival, Northern Neck Chamber Series, Norfolk Festival, Appalachian Chamber Music Festival, Phoenix Chamber Music Festival, and a chamber recital at Carnegie Hall. She is a member of the Lanta Horn Duo, with which she recorded a forthcoming album featuring works for two horns by female composers.

Hunt has taught extensively around the globe, and is a graduate of the Global Leaders Program, which provides guest artists to El Sistema-style programs in the Western Hemisphere, and supports to entrepreneurial music education programs. She worked for three years as a guest artist in one such program in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, and created entrepreneurial music projects in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and abroad. She has given master classes and recitals in Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Hunt has adjudicated for competitions including the International Women's Brass Conference Solo Competition and the International Horn Competition of America. Hunt has served on the faculties of Illinois State University and Utah State University, and in 2021, became one of the first Suzuki French horn teachers in the world.
