About Leslie
Leslie Williams (she/her) is Professor and Director of Dance Emeritus at West Texas A&M University and current Director and Adjunct Professor of Dance at Northwestern Michigan College. With a lifetime of teaching and performing professionally in modern, ballet, and jazz, Williams is a passionate teacher, choreographer, and educator. A frequent guest artist of Interlochen Arts Academy, a four-year graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, and a three-summer alumna-Williams is thrilled to be joining the summer faculty for her 18th year.
Nearing two decades of educating young students, my aim is to foster well rounded, collaborative artists, in addition to instilling clean, core-centered dance technique. I apply a solid, holistic instructional approach across the disciplines of classical and contemporary modern, ballet, choreography. My focus on somatics minimizes unnecessary tension with the goal of extending each dancer’s healthy performing years. Further emphasis on cross-training ensures young dancers form habits that maximize healthy bodies as they age in a rigorous art.
