About Magie

Magie Beck is the Associate Professor of Clarinet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, where she has taught applied clarinet, general education courses, and directed the Community Music Program for 18 years. She is an active recitalist, chamber and orchestral musician, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. She earned Master's and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in clarinet from The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, Beck was the recipient of the prestigious University Fellowship. Her principal teachers include James Pyne and Tod Kerstetter. Beck has been recorded on the Naxos label and has performed with numerous orchestras in the United States. She currently serves on the Social Media Committee for the International Clarinet Association. Beck was invited to perform with The Cool Trio (Maureen Murchie, violin and Paul Johnston, piano) in Reno, Nevada, Summer of 2022, as part of the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFest. She recently premiered and recorded Paul Johnston’s Suite for Clarinet and Piano, that will be released later this year.

Beck is a dedicated pedagogue and educator. She takes personal pride and interest in each of her students. She holds a high standard of excellence and thrives on helping her students set and reach goals. Her former students have become successful music educators and performers across the country.

In her free time, Beck enjoys cooking, storytelling, spending time with her family, and traveling.
