Martin Schuring
About Martin
Martin Schuring held orchestral positions with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, The Florida Orchestra, and the Phoenix Symphony before joining the Arizona State University faculty in 1992. He has played with the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra since 1980.
Martin has recorded for Philips, Koch International, MMC, and Summit Records. He has prepared a new edition of the Barret Oboe Method and the Ferling 48 Studies, Op. 31 for Kalmus.
His comprehensive book of oboe technique, "Oboe Art and Method", was published by Oxford University Press in 2009. In 2020, OUP published "Great Oboists on Music and Musicianship", co-authored with Michele Fiala.
Martin has performed at nearly every conference of the International Double Reed Society since 1997, and is a past president of IDRS. He co-hosted the 1998 IDRS Conference and the 2011 Conference at Arizona State University, where he is Professor of Oboe. He performs on Howarth XL instruments.
Martin Schuring studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with John de Lancie.
