About Micah
Dr. Micah Wittmer is a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI) and an Orton Gillingham Academy Associate. She is the founder of Liberated Literacy LLC, an education consulting and tutoring company that provides services for educators and families of adolescents. Wittmer supports adolescent students, their teachers, and their parents with navigating dyslexia, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges through a culturally responsive, anti-bias, anti-racist lens. She serves on the boards of the Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children and the Northern Ohio Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.
For the past 20-plus years, Wittmer has held a variety of teaching positions, including adjunct professor in literacy pedagogy, Board of Education certified middle school ELA and history teacher, Orton Gillingham tutor, undergraduate teaching fellow, undergraduate academic advisor, early childhood music teacher, and violin teacher.
Wittmer attended the Juilliard Pre-College and the College, where she majored in violin performance. She understands firsthand the joys and challenges of being a driven adolescent arts major with ADHD and a specific learning disability in reading and math.
I am passionate about ensuring that artistic students who struggle with reading, writing, executive functioning skills, and metacognition have the tools to become successful individuals. I am equally committed to supporting teachers with differentiating instruction to meet students in their zone of proximal development.
