About Philip

Philip Hartigan was born in England and lived in Dusseldorf, London, Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid before coming to Chicago in 2002. He studied English Literature at Clare College Cambridge and Painting at Winchester School of Art. His paintings, prints, short films and installations have been exhibited in Spain, the UK, and across the USA. His work was recently featured in the Installation issue of New York Arts Magazine. In January 2009, Hartigan was awarded a grant by the Illinois Arts Council/Freeport Art Museum to teach printmaking in a rural Illinois community. Current projects include a public art project in Urbana, Illinois, and regular contributions to Hyperallergic: Sensitive to Art and Its Discontents. Hartigan is adjunct faculty in the Fiction Writing and Film and Video Departments at Columbia College Chicago.
