R.J. Seibert III
About R.J.
R.J. Seibert III is the instructor of Instrumental Exploration at Interlochen Arts Camp. Currently, Seibert is the Elementary Music Teacher at Woodhaven-Brownstown School District in Woodhaven Michigan where he serves over 400 students from Kindergarten to 5th Grade. Seibert previously taught for three years at Blissfield Community Schools as the Elementary Music Teacher.
Before his teaching career, Seibert graduated from the College of Musical Arts of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelors of Music Education. Seibert studied percussion under the direction of Dr. Roger B. Schupp and Dr. Dan Piccolo, and took conducting classes with the world-renowned Dr. Emily Freeman Brown. During this time, Seibert was an active performer in various performing ensembles, working alongside highly sought-after composers and musicians such as Jennifer Higdon, Sam Adler, Jennifer Jolley, as well as members of "Mantra Percussion." To complete his degree program, Seibert student taught with the Troy High School Bands under the direction of Brain P. Nutting and Jacob Greenwood.
While working towards his degree, Seibert served as an educational mentor at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Wu Family Academy for three years. During his time at the DSO, Seibert worked and performed under the baton of Lenoard Slatkin on a number of occasions and performed alongside Michael W. Smith, American Idol finalist Angie Miller, and pianist Emmanual Ax. Seibert has also worked with the Anthony Wayne Bands in Whitehouse Ohio, and the Grapevine High School Band in Grapevine Texas as a drumline tech.
Outside of the classroom, Seibert enjoys performing and spending quality time with his family and two dogs, Izzy and Joe.
