About Simbi

In Haiti, Simbi is the goddess of sweet, fresh, water. Kali is the Hindu goddess that kills the ego and liberates the soul. Simbi Kali was born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised on the south side of Chicago.

Her journey as an artist began in fourth grade in after-school program E.T.A. (Ebony Talent Association). She was trained in the Katherine Dunham Dance technique by Tommy Gomez, a protege of Ms.Dunham. She graduated from Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. received her B.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts, where she also was a teacher with the Community Arts Partnership Program (CAP). CAP is an out reach program for inner city youth.

Her voice resume includes The Incredible Hulk and War Craft video games as well as Stuart Little and Batman: The Animated Series. Her most noted works are Third Rock from the Sun (Golden Globe winner, Best Comedy, 1997), We Were Soldiers, and Mississippi Damned (Chicago International Film Festival & Outfest festival winners), Detroit: Become Human (SXSW Gaming Award winner, 2020), Buck (Sundance Official Selection, 2020), Ship: A Visual Poem (winner, Sundance, 2020), and Ricky (Official Sundance Selection, 2023)
