I want my students to understand that we live in a world constructed almost entirely on narrative. As evidenced by Kipling's infamous poem "The White Man's Burden", even simple notions of who is considered human have been historically subject to propaganda and interpretation. It is my goal that each of my students understands the responsibility they have as artists and writers in participating in narrative—or perhaps counter narrative.
