At Interlochen’s dance school, we appreciate breadth. We want our dance students to build strength in classical ballet, giving them an excellent foundation for contemporary dance styles. Our faculty-mentors enable you to express yourself through the art of dance, making sure your personal touch comes through as you interpret music through movement. At the same time, every instructor brings a wealth of experience in professional dancing and a deep understanding of the world of professional dance. Dance instructors at Interlochen are career educators with dance performance experience and a deep passion for developing skills of the next generation of young artists. Math or Movement? School includes a full curriculum.
Dance school definitely focuses on dance, but school days at Interlochen Arts Academy include a rigorous academic curriculum, including: language arts, math, history, science, and foreign languages. College prep tracks, advanced placement (AP), and college credit options are all available. Dance courses are part of every high school semester—including classes on pointe, conditioning, technique, partnering, character dance, and more.
