Classes are offered year-round, with eight start dates per year during four seasonal sessions—winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Students enjoy a combination of practical projects, group musical theatre classes, and individualized feedback. A weekly one-hour live group online class with a performing arts faculty member serves as a core instructional component. Recorded class meetings are also available for later viewing if a student misses the live class. Musical theatre curriculum

Interlochen’s online musical theatre class topics span the complete range of the performing arts: acting, singing, and movement. Each musical theatre class is designed to foster creativity and self-expression in the performing arts space under the guidance of our world-renowned faculty, as well as prepare students for their next audition or production

Acting
In studying acting, students learn character development; effective scene study skills for understanding the time, place, and action of a story and tailoring performances accordingly; on-stage storytelling techniques; and musical theatre styles.

Singing
Singing classes ensure students use healthy and practical warm-up exercises; employ effective consonants and phrasing; utilize transitions and dynamics for compelling performances; and practice techniques for conveying authentic meaning through song.

Movement
Understanding stage movement—while acting and singing—is an essential component of learning musical theatre. Movement curriculum encompasses exercise and strength routines; techniques from iconic performances and musical eras; and character-specific choreographic adaptations.
