Master Your Instrument and Musicianship from Home
Interlochen offers you unique access to excellent training with premier music faculty—all hosted digitally and enabling you to learn in the comfort of your own home. Realizing that not all students are able to study at Interlochen Arts Academy (our internationally renowned boarding school) or attend Interlochen Arts Camp in the summer, our instructors are now providing the same exceptional music classes online for teens and adults.
Four-week online music classes are offered for teens and adults who want to learn in a small group, discussing music with the instructor and classmates in online chats and practicing and completing projects individually during the week. Optional one-hour live class meetings enable students to learn from a professional faculty member, meet a community of fellow musicians, and solicit feedback on their skills. If you miss a class, the meetings are recorded for you to watch later at your convenience.
Each course includes a mix of video segments, guided learning, hands-on activities, and discussion with fellow students. Within four weeks, each student prepares a performance or completes an artistic project, like a new song or polished mix. Personalized, constructive feedback is also provided to each student by the professional faculty leading the course.
Online music certificate programs provide an opportunity to earn an Interlochen credential. Certificate programs are a package of three courses in your musical speciality. Teens and adults are using these certificates to help stand out on résumés, college applications, and their LinkedIn profiles. For teenagers, this is also an engaging way to earn high school credit if they successfully complete their studies. The certificate programs are accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), the same body that accredits Interlochen Arts Academy.
Private online music lessons through Interlochen are another way for children, teens, and adults to advance their abilities as an artist without traveling to meet with a music teacher. Students log on for 50 minutes of individualized instruction each week, led by a premier musician who specializes in their instrument or musical specialty. Lessons are tailored to the age, experience, and interest of the student and are coordinated to accommodate each student’s schedule.
