Why Take Musical Theatre Production

In this program designed for students in grades 6-8, you'll further develop your skills in acting, singing, and dancing. Your summer will culminate with you performing in a live, fully produced musical theatre production!

What You'll Learn

The Musical Theatre Production program is designed for students with musical theatre experience. You'll work with high-caliber instructors to develop the physicality, knowledge, and tools to be a successful musical theatre performer. You'll finish the summer with three performances of a musical theatre production with full technical and design support.

As a Musical Theatre student, you will:

  • Improve your skills in acting, singing, and various dance styles
  • Understand the collaborative nature of the theatre
  • Apply acting techniques to the performance of a song
  • Bring your character to life in a fully staged production

Performance Opportunities

The summer program ends with a multi-performance run of a fully staged musical. The production receives full design and technical support throughout, with live accompaniment.

Recreational Activities

This might be an arts camp, but it's still camp! In addition to theatre rehearsals, you'll have the chance to explore the woods and swim, play field games, and learn cool skills like archery.

Additional Opportunities

Interlochen also offers a Musical Theatre program. If you're interested in scenery, costumes, lighting, or stage management, you can apply for the Theatre Design & Production program. We are home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers three theatre programs: Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Design & Production for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.

Each summer, the Theatre Department welcomes guests artists and educators to our campus. Past guests of the department have included:

  • Barrett Foa, NCIS:LA, Avenue Q, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Mamma Mia!
  • Lothair Eaton, singer, actor, vocal coach
  • Kooman & Dimond, Emmy-nominated songwriters

Theatre at Interlochen Arts Camp

We offer a wide variety of opportunities for young actors and theatre enthusiasts in grades 3-12. Whether you're a nine-year-old exploring theatre for the first time or a 16-year-old Shakespeare buff, Interlochen has a program that is perfectly tailored to your age and interests.

Interlochen is a magical place. You make so many friends, and all the people you meet are so kind. I love my director; she is so brilliant and is honestly the best director I have ever had! I wish I could stay here forever.
