Acting Summer Program for Grades 6-8

Develop the key tools needed by young actors—the body, the voice, and the imagination. Through a series of theatre exercises and structured classes, you will expand your abilities and discover your potential as an actor, while gaining confidence as a performer.

What You'll Learn

In the summer Acting program designed for students in grades 6-8, you will explore the fundamental building blocks of the craft of acting. You'll establish a strong foundation in acting and theatre-making through a series of exercises and scripted work, with an emphasis on connecting to both text and scene partners. The session concludes with a showcase performance during which you will demonstrate your growth as an actor in front of a live audience.

As an acting camp student, you will:

  • Demonstrate fundamental acting and performance skills
  • Develop your physical presence and awareness
  • Strengthen your vocal instrument
  • Discover a reliable and consistent acting technique

Program Highlights

Performance Opportunities

The summer program ends with a performance of a theatre showcase. You'll have a chance to show off your new skills for an audience of your peers and family members!

Recreational Activities

This might be an arts camp, but it's still camp! In addition to theatre rehearsals, you'll have the chance to explore the woods and swim, play field games, and learn cool skills like archery.

Additional Opportunities

Interlochen also offers the Acting Company Production program, which stages a fully produced play with scenery, lighting, and full costumes. If you're interested in scenery, costumes, lighting, or stage management, you can apply for the Theatre Design & Production program.

Interlochen is home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers theatre programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Design & Production for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.

Theatre at Interlochen Arts Camp

We offer a wide variety of opportunities for young actors and theatre enthusiasts in grades 3-12. Whether you're a nine-year-old exploring theatre for the first time or a 16-year-old Shakespeare buff, Interlochen has a program that is perfectly tailored to your age and interests.

In the three short weeks that I've been here, Interlochen has not only bettered my acting ability, but has aided me in personal improvement and character building.
