Preparing a Portfolio for College Intensive

Why Take Preparing a Portfolio for College

Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime. But finding the perfect school is just the first step. Next comes the application—and then the portfolio. In this program, we will help you craft a professional portfolio, unlocking the path to your top-choice colleges.

What You'll Learn

If you're ready to take your art to the next level, this program is for you. Under the guidance of experienced educators, you'll prepare a review-ready portfolio for your college applications.

During your time here, you will participate in workshops and seminars on portfolio development, peer presentations, and virtual reviews by college representatives. You'll also enjoy open studio sessions, which give you the opportunity to create new works for your portfolio.

You will also learn:

  • How to research schools, colleges, and programs to find the best match
  • How to identify and fulfill specific requirements for the application process
  • How to present yourself and your work to a panel
  • How to document your work

Prerequisites:

Please bring with you to the intensive your current and past finished artwork—originals or digital images are acceptable—so the faculty can assess your portfolio. If you are bringing original works, please protect them carefully during transportation. We also recommend that you bring your sketchbooks.

Program Highlights

Portfolio Reviews

While peer and instructor feedback is helpful, there's nothing quite like a real portfolio review. That's why we invite representatives from the nation's top visual arts schools to conduct virtual portfolio reviews during this program. You'll be able to practice your presentation techniques and get real-time feedback from the experts.

Dow Center for Visual Arts

During your session, you will learn and create in the Dow Center for Visual Arts, one of the finest facilities dedicated to the study of the visual arts at the high school level. The 36,000 square-foot complex includes separate studios for drawing, painting, metalworking, ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital arts, and fibers, as well as a gallery for student, staff, and faculty exhibitions.
