Statement Of Commitment To Our Community

Affirmed by the Board of Trustees in July 2024

Interlochen Center for the Arts is committed to the well-being of our students and employees, fostering a safe and nurturing environment where all are welcomed and accepted. We understand that significant national and global events can have a profound impact on our community and beyond. During such challenging times, we focus on ensuring our students, faculty, and staff receive the support they need.

We deeply appreciate the value of open and respectful conversation and acknowledge the diversity of perspectives represented by our students, faculty, staff, alumni, volunteers, patrons, and supporters. Our policy is to refrain from taking institutional positions on complex political or global matters that fall beyond the scope of our primary focus—the teaching and sharing of the arts.

In our classrooms and within our community, we focus on teaching our students how to lead with empathy and compassion—even with those with whom they may disagree. In this, we are guided by our four core values, in particular Solo e Tutti which encapsulates our emphasis on both individuality and community. We believe as we pursue our own personal and artistic growth, we gain skills and perspectives that empower us to contribute more meaningfully as collaborators, colleagues, and citizens. The universal language of the arts unites our diverse community, promoting intercultural friendships, encouraging empathetic dialogue, and fostering our development as creative changemakers.
