COLLABORATE WITH ALL ARTS AREAS

Edmonia

In the spring of 2024, Interlochen Arts Academy students from multiple disciplines presented the staged premiere of the opera Edmonia by award-winning composer William Banfield. The opera, which was originally commissioned by Pulitzer- and Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison, celebrates Edmonia Lewis (1844-1907), the acclaimed African American and Native American 19th-century sculptor.

“This is one of the biggest collaborative projects that we have ever done. Our audience is going to see singer-songwriters, opera students, musical theater students, jazz students, interdisciplinary arts students, actors, and dancers all on stage.”
