Dance Audition Requirements for Summer Programs (High School Students)
High School Classical Ballet
Prerequisites
Students should have five consecutive years of training at the time of application. While pointe work is not required, students who wish to receive pointe instruction at Interlochen should come with one to two years of training.
Students should be free of injury prior to arrival. Any health-related concerns should be acknowledged on the medical form and reported to the dance department. Students are expected to be well-groomed; long hair must be worn up and off the neck.
Audition Requirements
Image file: a photograph taken in the first arabesque.
Video file: center floor exercises (no barre)
- Grand Adagio – including développés in each position, promenades, and pirouettes
- Petit Allegro – including jêtés and assemblés
- Grand Allegro – including grand jêtés, grand jêtés entrelacé, and tour en l'air for men
High School Contemporary Dance
Prerequisites
Students should have had at least three years of training, and be injury-free prior to arrival. Any health-related concern should be acknowledged on the medical form and reported to the dance department prior to arrival.

Video file: A three-minute contemporary dance warm-up or solo that includes basic dance vocabulary; the video should give a sense of the applicant's placement, line, body awareness, flexibility, and control.
