Pianist Hyemin Kim (Interlochen’s Collaborative Piano Faculty) and soprano Yeseul Choi (Voice Faculty at Gangwon National University, Sookmyung Women's University, Sungshin Women's University, and Sangmyeong University in South Korea) will present a recital titled Women’s Love and Life. This program delves into the emotional depth and complexity of women’s experiences through music.
The recital opens with Antonio Vivaldi’s aria “Sposa son disprezzata” from Bajazet, a poignant expression of heartache and betrayal, capturing the vulnerability and pain of love. Robert Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben (A Woman’s Love and Life) portrays a woman’s emotional journey—from the innocence of first love to the profound grief of loss—encapsulating the joys and sorrows that define the female experience.
The program continues with Fernando Obradors’ Canciones Clásicas Españolas, a vibrant set of Spanish songs that reflect the passion, sensuality, and intensity of romantic longing. The performance concludes with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s evocative songs and piano works, including:
"Oh, Never Sing to Me Again", Op. 4, No. 4, an aching lament for lost love.
"A Dream", Op. 8, No. 5, a haunting reflection on dreams and yearning.
“How Fair This Spot", Op. 21, No. 7, a serene depiction of beauty and tranquility, evoking peaceful contentment.
