In Memoriam: July 2024
John “Jack” Driscoll (IAA Fac 75-82, 83-05, 06-08) of Mystic, Connecticut, passed away on June 25, 2024. A founding faculty member of Interlochen Arts Academy’s Creative Writing Division, Driscoll initiated many of the division’s opportunities—including the Visiting Writers Series and The Interlochen Review—and mentored hundreds of young writers. Driscoll also maintained his own practice as a writer, penning 12 award-winning books and earning numerous accolades, including a Pushcart Editors’ Book Award, two Pushcart Prizes, two NEA Creative Writing Fellowships, and seven PEN Syndicated Short Fiction Awards.

Allen Norris (AS 49-50) of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on May 2, 2024.
Eugenia (Baird) Whitesell (IAC/NMC 51-52) of South Fulton, Tennessee, passed away on June 26, 2024.
Marion Hart (IAC/NMC 51-58, IAC St 60-63) of Salem, South Carolina, passed away on June 3, 2024.
Donald Jaquish (IAC St 59-63) of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on May 28, 2024.
Don Wilcox (UNIV 61, IAC Fac 76) of Northport, Michigan, passed away on May 27, 2024.
Carolyn Thompson (UNIV 62, IAC St 63-64) of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on May 10, 2024.
Karen Yahr (IAC St 64-68) of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on May 31, 2024.
Raymond J. Bates (IAC St 65-67, IAA St 66-68) of Caro, Michigan, passed away on July 10, 2024.
Wesley Warren White (IAC/NMC 69, IAA 71-73) passed away on April 5, 2024.
Jane Huber (IAA 78-79) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 1, 2024.
Nancy Hoekstra (IAC/NMC 80-87) of Elmhurst, Illinois, passed away on June 16, 2024. Nancy’s family has been deeply connected to Interlochen for more than 60 years. She will be missed by her mother Nancy (Jordon) Fako (IAC/NMC 59-60, UNIV 61, IAC Fac 68-70) and siblings Lisa (Fako) Brusen (IAC/NMC 75-82), Laura (Fako) Utley (IAC/NMC 77-83), Margaret Fako (IAC/NMC 84-90, IAC 91-95, IAC St 96-00, ICA St 00-24), and Robert Fako (IAC/NMC 89-90, IAC 91-96, IAC/NMC 89-90,IAC St 96-98). Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Martin Fako (IAC Fac 68-04).
Sandra McArthur (IAC St 96-97) of Cedar, Michigan, passed away on May 9, 2024.
