Advanced Strings Summer Program for Grades 3-6
Why Take Advanced Strings
Are you a highly skilled young musician who is looking to push the boundaries of what you can accomplish? Then the Advanced Strings program is just for you. At Interlochen, you'll tackle challenging literature, receive extensive personal instruction, and perform alongside other passionate musicians from across the globe.
What You'll Learn
During your time here, you'll rehearse, take classes, participate in artistic activities, and perform on stage at one of our historic and revered venues.
Coursework will include:
- Sectionals, music theory, and movement exercises
- Weekly private lessons with dedicated practice time on non-lesson days
- Techniques classes
- Practice hour, which provides additional daily practice time
- Dalcroze Eurhythmics
- May include auditing master classes and receiving coaching from renowned visiting guest artists
Junior Honors Recital
Interlochen offers an Honors Recital competition for musicians in the Junior Division. Juniors accepted into the finals will perform in a special Honors Recital scheduled mid-week during the 2nd week of your session.

Concerto Competition & Honors Recital
Interlochen Arts Camp offers a Concerto Competition for the High School and Intermediate Divisions, as well as an Honors Recital Competition for the Junior Division.
Performance Opportunities
Students from the Advanced String program will have daily rehearsals with the Junior String Orchestra—a large ensemble that rehearses two hours daily, and has two performances during the session.
Additional Opportunities
Sixth grade is a year of choice: students in sixth grade may choose to apply either for a junior session or for the Advanced Strings summer program for grades 6-8.
