The work made its world premiere on Feb. 12, 2022 with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. The program will also include Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky (arr. Ravel).
During her visit to Interlochen, Pine will also perform in Interlochen Public Radio’s Studio A, lead a master class for Arts Academy violin students, and participate in a Q&A session.
Hailed for her “dazzling technique” (The Washington Post), Pine is widely regarded as one of the leading interpreters of both classical and contemporary repertoire. A prolific performer and studio artist, she has recorded 39 albums and appeared with acclaimed ensembles around the world, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, among many others. The Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra is globally renowned as one of the world's finest high school orchestras. Under the direction of Dr. Leslie B. Dunner, the orchestra performs an advanced repertoire that includes symphonies, concerti, contemporary works, and original compositions. The orchestra has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, and the New World Center and premiered works by Ash Fure, Hannah Lash, and Nico Muhly, among others. The orchestra collaborates regularly with other arts divisions at Interlochen and is the resident orchestra for the Arts Academy's annual performance of The Nutcracker.
Also an active philanthropist, Pine founded the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation in 2001 to support young artists. The foundation’s notable efforts include the Instrument Loan Program, Grants for Education and Career, and the Music by Black Composers Project. Through the Music by Black Composers Project, the Foundation has collected more than 900 works by 450+ Black composers from the 18th-21st centuries; curated free repertoire directories; and published print resources, including pedagogical books written exclusively by Black classical composers. Pine also serves on the board of the Sphinx Organization, a social justice organization focused on increasing representation of Black and Latinx artists in classical music.
Arts Academy students enjoy frequent opportunities to engage with the world’s finest artists and performers, who regularly visit campus to conduct master classes, collaborate with students, and stage concerts and exhibitions. As a part of Vision 2029, the institution’s vision for its second century, Interlochen will enhance the student experience by expanding access to visiting artists across artistic disciplines.
