Josh Lederman
World events write the script for theatre alumnus-turned-journalist Josh Lederman.
From the Interlochen stage to the national spotlight, Josh Lederman’s path proves an Interlochen education can lead to unexpected places. After graduating from The George Washington University with a degree in anthropology, Josh worked as an actor and singer in New York City but ultimately decided to pursue another path. He enrolled in Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism to explore his passion for politics and global affairs. After graduating with his master’s degree, he took a job with The Associated Press (AP), covering foreign affairs, national security, and U.S. diplomacy. From 2013 to 2017, he traveled with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to more than 20 countries as a White House reporter for the AP. Now as an NBC News correspondent based in Washington, DC, Josh reports on politics and national security, appearing regularly on MSNBC and other NBC platforms. In 2015, Lederman won the White House Correspondents’ Association’s Merriman Smith award for excellence in presidential news coverage under deadline pressure.
Try not to get fixated on someone else’s vision of what a successful and gratifying career related to your art is or looks like. There are so many opportunities to do things that are meaningful and worthwhile and also creative and artistically fulfilling that are out-of-the-box.
