Visual Arts Portfolio Requirements for Summer Programs (High School Students)

Advanced Drawing
Prepare five images in any drawing medium that represent your highest quality of work. Three pieces must be made from direct observation, drawn or painted from life, not copied from a photograph.
Note: applicants who wish to continue in the three-week Advanced Painting program that follows the Advanced Drawing program should follow the Advanced Painting portfolio guidelines. Students do not need to submit two separate portfolios.
Advanced Painting
Prepare a minimum of five images that represent your highest quality of work. Three pieces must be made from direct observation (drawn or painting from life, not copied from a photograph). The portfolio may be in any medium, but evidence of some color experience is preferred (paint, colored pencil, pastel, etc.).
Note: applicants who wish to also apply for the Advanced Drawing program should follow the Advanced Painting portfolio guidelines above. Students do not need to submit two separate portfolios.
Comics & Graphic Narratives Intensive
Submissions should include samples from one of the following categories. You may, however, include submissions from multiple categories:
- Three to five examples of visual art, which can include drawings, paintings, comics, and graphic narratives
- At least a 10-page spread from a graphic narrative for which you have done the art and/or writing
- A short story or multiple short stories (a total of 10-20 pages)
Fashion
Applicants should prepare a minimum of five images that represent their highest quality of work. Two pieces must be made from direct observation (drawn or painted from life, not copied from a photograph). The portfolio may be in any medium, and no prior sewing experience is required, but evidence of some experience with multiple media is preferred (such as fiber, sculpture, clay, etc.).
